Four (4) Garden Craft Projects for Father’s Day (Child’s Craft)

Four 4 garden craft projects for a happy fathers day 2014 #gardeningaustralia www.aboutthegarden.com

Father’s Day is always a special time and I love to encourage my children to ‘craft’ something special for their Daddy and Poppy. Here are Four (4) Garden Craft Projects for Father’s Day that I think are pretty awesome!

This Father’s Day Garden Craft project (by me) is a fun and useful way to showcase children’s ‘art’. I’ve included a step-by-step ‘how to guide’ to make it easy. Don’t be scared to try this one if your a ‘non-crafter’, its relatively simple and requires few craft materials, just glue and more glue! Pot up with herbs for a great culinary addition to Dad’s BBQ area this Father’s Day.

Garden Hose water gun from instructables for father's day gift idea #gardeningaustralia www.aboutthegarden.com2. Garden Hose Water Gun

I stumbled across this on Pinterest and couldn’t help but laugh, there is a man in our house that would LOVE this for a Father’s Day Gift. Whilst not strictly ‘craft’, this one does require some ‘crafting’. PVC pipe is pretty easy to cut through with an inexpensive saw (normally under $10). Have a chat with your local hardware store if you need extra help, they are very generous with their time and can probably cut the pipe for you if you ask nicely 🙂

Garden Stepping stones make your own for fathers day from kids activities blog DIY #gardeningaustralia www.aboutthegarden.com.jpg3. DIY Stepping Stones

Love this Father’s Day Garden Craft idea as something that could carry on every year. I just have this vision of an endless path through the garden, a place of reflection and wonderful memories carved in stone. Check your local hardware store or garden centre to see if they have a stepping stone kit, alternatively you can use a cake tin.

Dad or Granddad might get a laugh out of this one! Creative use of the humble wooden spoon. You could write on it with permanent market, paint & seal or even use a wood burner to label each item (obviously wood burners are not for very small children).

Children’s Fun Maker – Renee Nugent

Hi, I’m Renee and I’m a self confessed fun maker. Whilst I’m not the world’s best gardener (I’ve killed cactus), I believe that getting my kids gardening is one of the most important experiences I can give them as a parent. It’s my way to teach them about the environment, food production, healthy living, science and sustainable practices in a fun and physical way. I love that they are willing to taste our garden produce and that we incorporate many of our garden ‘treasures’ into our craft activities.

So don’t let past gardening failures burden you, we’ve all killed plants and that’s OK. Just get out there and garden with your kids, because….. well….. it’s fun :-)
