Here are some top tips for garden recovery after heavy rainfall and windy weather.
- Turn off automatic irrigation systems until garden has dried out.
- Rake all fallen leaves and use as mulch on the garden
- Stand up fallen pot plants and give them good water as they likely didn’t get the soil wet when they were lying down
- While pot plants have been pushed over by the winds, good time to check drainage holes are not blocked with roots escaping from the pot.
- If water is pooled in lawns or gardens, make a trench to drain it or raise the ground levels
- Plants that have been inundated with water and you worry about root rot affecting the plant, treat with Root Rot foliar spray
- Empty saucers under pots that have filled up, aside from waterlogging, the plant it is a breeding place for mozzies
- Prune off damaged limbs or branches
- Water plants that were undercover and didn’t receive any rain, it’s easy to forget them when there is so much water lying about
- Many nutrients may be washed away and so fertilise once the water has dissipated
